Johnny Depp Talks Chocolate Factory

While he's signed for a sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, one other project on Johnny Depp's mind is Tim Burton's adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

It's not a done deal, but Depp sees "Wonka" as the ultimate without-a-net challenge. "You'll never escape that memory that's seared into your consciousness of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka," he admits. "It was really amazing to watch as a kid growing up, and I've watched it with my kids. So it's just, Okay, where do I go from there? Gene Wilder did something very beautiful and it's time to take it somewhere else."

Depp doubts that Burton will make him belt out musical numbers like Wilder did in the original, but he's not exactly opposed to the idea, either.

Wreslter Triple H Lining Up Hollywood Projects

World Wrestling Entertainment star Triple H has signed on to a pair of high-profile roles. He will star in Jornada del Muerte, a modern-day Western from Apocalypse Now writer John Milius, and will battle Wesley Snipes in New Line Cinema's Blade: Trinity.

Jornada del Muerte (Journey of Death) will be the first theatrical release from the recently formed WWE Films production banner. The project, which Milius said was written specifically for Triple H (whose real name is Michael Paul LeVesque) to star in, is described as a modern-day Western set in the Southwest that involves motorcycle gangs, drug trafficking and broken codes of honor.

In "Blade," Triple H will play one of the heavies who take on Snipes' vampire-hunter character in the third installment of the franchise. The film is being directed by David Goyer. It will mark his first appearance on the big screen.

Eowyn wields a mean sword. How did you like all that training?
Oh, it was great fun. The guys on the stunt team are really fantastic. It's really funny, because for all the aggression they have to display on screen, they're actually really happy, good-natured people. When we were shooting, they just said to me, 'You know, it doesn't really look like you're slashing him there. You'll really have to hit him.' They had armor, but it still hurts. But they didn't seem to mind, evidently they laughed about it afterwards.

Thomas Haden Church will star alongside Paul Giamatti in Fox Searchlight's comedy Sideways for director Alexander Payne. Virginia Madsen is also in final talks to come on board as the female lead, with shooting slated to begin in September in California's Santa Ynez Valley.

Based on the upcoming novel by Rex Pickett, the film is about a man (Giamatti) who is about to get married and decides to take a road trip with his best friend (Church) up to vineyard country for one last blowout. During that week, the duo get into trouble with wine and women -- played by Madsen and Sandra Oh -- and come to some profound realizations in their pre-midlife crises.

Payne and Jim Taylor adapted the screenplay.

New Line Cinema has acquired the sci-fi action-comedy pitch Planet Terry by comic creator Rob Liefeld. Liefeld is the co-founder of Image Comics, the third largest publisher after D.C. and Marvel, and founded the X-Force franchise for Marvel Comics.

Planet Terry concerns a middle-aged family man in extraordinary circumstances in the vein of films like Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty.

The project was to be Liefeld's next online comic series, following the sale of his previous online series Shrink!, which Jennifer Lopez is both producing and attached to topline for Columbia Pictures.

Other Liefeld feature projects include The Mark, with Will Smith attached to star, and Galaxy Girl -- both set up at Paramount.

As you may have heard, Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the set of The Rock's The Rundown before he announced he was running for Governor of California. But how did Arnold end up in the film as well? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson tells us how it went down.

"He said he was in the area and he wanted to stop by and have lunch. We're having lunch, [director] Peter Berg came over and had lunch with us. Peter leans over to my ear and whispers 'Hey, should I ask him to be in the movie?' I said 'Do you want to be in the movie.' He's eating and he says, 'Yeah, let's go, I'll do it right now.' He gets up and looks around and says 'Let's shoot.' Within 15 minutes we're on the set in the bar and all these extras are like 'Oh my God, it's Arnold.' He has this bright jacket on, I don't know where he got it, it had all these cartoons and characters on it. It was surreal, we had no dialogue. Peter asked him 'So what do you want to do?' Arnold says, 'I just want to tell him to have fun.' Great. Shoot it. That was it. It was really cool of him, really nice."

It almost seems as if Arnold is passing the action hero baton to The Rock by doing this cameo. "Very much so. It's very ironic and it's funny how things happen out of a little lunch. Interestingly enough, I asked him 'Where did that come from, 'have fun', Why do you want to say have fun?' He told me, 'You're going where I've been.' So that was great, really cool."

The Rock says he and the Terminator go back some time. "I've known him for some time and I met his wife Maria Shriver. I spoke at the Republican convention, I met her there. When I was wrestling he came to see me wrestle, brought his kids, brought Maria."

But, will he vote for him? "I don't know. I have to see. I wish him luck."

The Rundown opens in theaters on Friday, September 26.

In the first tidbit, we find out that the next chapter in Mia Thermopolis' fairy tale life is finally about to begin. According to our sources, principal photography on the sequel to 2001's "Princess Diaries" will begin November 18 in Los Angeles. We also have story and character details. Full article here.

In our second article, we have some news on a project that stalled late last year, before filming was to begin in January. Steve Martin and Claire Danes are still in, but "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Jimmy Fallon is out as "Shopgirl" draws closer to filming in mid-October. Anna has stated that she is not involved in Scary Movie 4. She loves playing Cindy Campbell, but wants to move on her career regarding acting. There is a possibility that she may return, but it depends on the popularity and release of the movie when released on October 24.

The Motion Picture Association of America is working with the CEOs of the major studios on a plan whereby the studios would stop mailing out screeners of eligible films.

Studio executives have long been ambivalent about the process, preferring that their films be seen on the big screen. The new plan is not an artistic decision, but a business one: The screener cease-fire is proposed in the name of fighting piracy.

Every year, the studios mail out thousands of screeners, not only to voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, but to voting members of the guilds and organizations such as BAFTA and the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation.

In the past few years, piracy of these screeners has proliferated, particularly of the DVDs. The majors have fretted about piracy, but wondered how to combat it.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has sold an estimated 17 million DVDs and Videos of Pixar's Finding Nemo in its first week of release.

There's a strong chance it will sell more than 25 million copies domestically, which would place it among the top-selling video titles of all time. It may even poise the film to take a run at the 30 million mark, just shy of the 32 million copies Disney sold of The Lion King.

Of the sales so far, about 80%, or 13.5 million, have been in the DVD format. "Nemo" is the top box office hit of 2003 so far, with domestic ticket sales of more than $339 million.

At The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King premiere in Wellington, New Zealand, director Peter Jackson talked about his upcoming project, King Kong, which he is currently writing with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

Australian actress Naomi Watts has already been tipped as the star and media attention is now turning to those who worked on "The Lord of the Rings". "We don't really know who's going to be in King Kong yet," Jackson said.

"Whether it's King Kong or films in the next 10 or 20 years, I'm hoping that I'm going to be and I'm actually fully intending to try to work with all these people again because they've just been so fantastic."

Like "The Lord of the Rings," King Kong will be shot in New Zealand. The visual effects will again be undertaken by Weta Ltd.

"The Lord of the Rings" executive producer Mark Ordesky hinted that there may also be a movie based on Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit. "There could be a movie about the hobbit. Enough said."

Jackson said New Line Cinema had yet to speak to him about The Hobbit and said there were some difficulties related to the rights for the book. "But certainly if they want to talk to me about it I'd be keen. It would be wonderful to complete the set of films."

After the "The Return of the King" premiere, Jackson will get to work on turning the theatrical movie into an extended DVD version.

Billy Ray Developing Tom Cruise's Jon Sarkin Biopic

Tom Cruise will be starring in a biopic about off-kilter artist Jon Sarkin. The star has tapped Shattered Glass writer/director Billy Ray to develop the project.

"I'm writing a screenplay through Cruise-Wagner Productions as a star vehicle for Tom," Ray told BBCi Films. "It's based on an article in GQ magazine about an artist named Jon Sarkin. He started out as a chiropractor. This very rigid, controlled guy had a stroke, a heart attack and a coma and came out of the hospital two years later a totally changed human being. All of a sudden, he was this rambling, manic child."

"The screenplay is about him and his wife and their little boy, and how this family changed and how they reacted to this new man. It's a great piece."

Storyline:
